SolarWinds data breach

Post by Atlantic »

There is news that a modified version of SolarWinds has been involved in the compromise of several U.S. government data systems. We are still attempting to get more information on this, as much of what has come out now is incomplete and in some cases contradictory. This is just the nature of media outlets reporting on technical matters beyond their knowledge.

We wanted to make sure that our customers know that there is no increased danger to their data or to any Atlantic systems. We do not currently use SolarWinds - a monitoring software for internetworking systems - in our network.

We will continue to provide updates on this story as we receive reliable and verifiable information.

Atlantic personnel are continuing to monitor the SolarWinds security incident.

Again, Atlantic systems do not use SolarWinds for monitoring, and there is no reason to believe that any of our systems have been affected by the incident. GreenGeeks, our vendor for server storage, has not reported any incidents in relation to this incident.

We will continue to review the list of software that is reported as compromised, and apply any security patches immediately. We will also inform our customers if there is any threat to their data or their systems.

Please note that Microsoft Exchange Server has a new update. This is not related to client software which is running MS Exchange; simply receiving email from an Exchange system will not result in any increased vulnerability. This is not known to affect any Atlantic customers; however, if you operate Exchange Server for your organization, you may wish to contact Microsoft at this location.

At first examination by Atlantic personnel, this does not appear to be associated with the SolarWinds data security incident. Atlantic recommends you follow Microsoft's instruction on this server package.
