US NOTAM system failed

Post by scooter »

Looks like that the NOTAM (Notice to Air Missions) system failed yesterday morning, resulting in a lot of delays and cancellations for flights in the United States (Chicago O'Hare was the worst hit).

NOTAM is a system which provides temporary information to pilots upon filing of a flight plan (weather, runway closures, etc.) Without it, you do not fly, so it resulted in a ground stop of several hours. This could have effects until tomorrow...

Following on the heels of the Southwest debacle, maybe we need to look at our aviation systems in general.

You mean actually invest money in our crumbling infrastructure? That's communism!
