Interesting. We just have flashing yellow lights installed on every low-floor bus, they're used solely on school runs.

Some operators upon retiring a bus have their destination boards removed and replaced with a yellow "SCHOOL BUS" sign which I find pointless, but whateva.

Train replacements are on, meaning that several bus companies are contacted to provide train replacement buses. They're mostly old, retired lowfloors that were used as route buses. Sadly many companies don't seem to maintain them very well.

The first bus I rode was built 4/1998, had no aircon and was sent on the road with a broken gearbox. No matter how fast we went, it never went to 4th gear. You can hear it decelerating from ~70km/h while still being in 3rd gear:

The second one was built in 2004. A bit newer. Still in very rough condition. As soon as it pulled up I heard this noise:

On the bright side, this was a very nice sounding bus, with its (actually working) gearbox standing out quite a lot:

However, as you can hear at 0:30, the hubs sound like they are about to break.

This bus is actually quite new to Wilson (the company who owns it) so I imagine it'll get attention some day. That day is certainly not today.

It is definitely concerning when the vehicle you are in is making unwelcome noises. Also pretty terrifying that they just don't seem to care much.

Doubly concerning when it is a plane...but that's a story for another time.

Wilson aren't terrible, just a weird company. They had this weird phase of pretending to be other companies.

They also ran buses with license plates from another state, and they swapped license plates to fake roadworthiness.

Looks like the second worst operator in Melbourne, Kinetic (often mistaken as K/NET/C because of their awful logo) is up for sale. Let's hope the operator they replaced buys them.

Here's a bus that's been lovingly rendered in BeamNG. It's based on the Isuzu Erga.
