Again, as with all news about the pandemic, you have to remind yourself that things are neither as good, nor as bad, as the headlines make them out to be. It does appear to be more infectious, and with people perhaps underestimating the threat, they may not take the correct precautions. "Less serious" does not mean "not serious". OTOH, for those who are vaccinated and boosted, and already less likely to develop serious symptoms as a result, this is in fact pretty good news.
More news on the omicron variant. Dr. Campbell works in the U.K. training nurses and is an accredited health professional; it's good because he rarely is dogmatic on any matter related to the SARS-CoV-2 virus and he often cites the data he's received.

Incidentally, analyses like these - very similar to this, in fact - are how we can be reasonably sure that CoViD was not released from a lab in China. The proteins exhibit relationships to viruses seen in the animal kingdom...both in Omicron and the base forms of the virus. It would make much more sense if these occurred naturally rather than being lab-engineered.
