This is what science looks like

Post by CrazyCraftLady »

Here's a thread about science where the results are still in question. Most of the time the questions are going to be pretty dry, like about statistical analysis. Sometimes (like in this example) a researcher might be a bit dodgy.

Violence in Media and Children - even researchers who think there's a link think this guy is a bit loose with the data, but he still gets published.

So, a study about microdosing psychodelics is pretty cool to begin with, but the self-blinding angle is really nifty!

Very nifty. Self-blind could be very useful in the future.

You have to shake things up like this in order to make a point sometimes. Maybe this effort should have come with a statement of goals...

Alright, this one is a bit of an inside baseball discussion (it's possible evidence that the standard model is wrong!) but the reason I posted it in this thread is towards the bottom of the article.

And to keep themselves from subconsciously steering the measurement to a value they’d prefer, experimenters relied on a clock ticking at a secret frequency known to only two people, both outside the collaboration. Only at the very end of the analysis did they open the envelopes containing the secret frequency—on a Zoom meeting because of COVID-19 restrictions.

That's pretty hard core!
