[Not a support request] Anyone have a laptop where the hinge breaks?
[Not a support request] Anyone have a laptop where the hinge breaks?
I have an HP Laptop 15-bs0xx with a broken hinge. Apparently for some reason, the right hinge of the computer got stuck, and thus broke when I went to close the computer. Anyone else have a similar situation with their laptop? It happened to me twice in fact, and I'm not one to abuse my computers.

It is a rather common problem, particularly with the HP Envy line. There was a defect in one of HP's lines as well, but that was several years ago and I believe there was a redesign which mitigated the problem. It should be possible to get another set of hinges for under $40, but be advised that it's a somewhat involved repair.

Thanks, though I'm probably just going to get another computer.

Sigh. Same thing has happened here with the new Acer. The hinges are designed stiff, which was noted in many reviews - they require two hands free to open - and that isn't a problem except when the bezel loosens and screws shear off with the plastic pegs still in them. It's still quite usable, and I don't want to send it back for service without another option to use, since it will likely be a while before getting it back, but it's super annoying.
