This is a most insidious rabbit hole to fall down...

Actually heard some of the shelved follow-up to Dark Side of the Moon and saw a rare early 50s Chuck Jones commercial...now reading about the rumored-to-have-been-lost early anime Cleopatra: Queen of Sex by Ozamu Tezuka. This is a whole website full of insomnia. Dammit.

This is really awesome! It conjured up the spirit of a regular feature on Bloody-Disgusting.com called Phantom Limbs where they interview writers and directors about horror projects (often sequels) that never made it. Like this, it can be a glimpse into an alternate timeline where things went a little differently.

Last night, I found all of Jim Henson's TV ads from the 1960s (that have been found; many are lost), including proto-versions of Kermit, Rowlf, Cookie Monster, and Big Bird. This site is insidious. I think I said that before.

We have a lost media alert: who can identify this show, or character?

What we know: this photo was taken in southern Ontario in 1992. It's in the background of someone's family photo. Many, many shows and studios have been mentioned; most have been shot down. Definitely not The Smurfs, definitely not Rock and Rule, almost certainly not The Littles, and so on. DiC is frequently brought up, as is Canadian studio Nelvana. Don Bluth has been mentioned, but this seems very unlikely to me. Some Canadians report that this was a commercial for a chocolate bar sold exclusively in Canada at that time, but no one can provide the name.

Some timestamp highlights:

• intro: 00:00-00:28
• cult show: 00:29-08:19 - A possible kids' indoctrination show from scary Christian cult The Family International.
• mysterious song: 08:20-12:42 - A ditty that sounds like mid-80s Britpop, similar to The Smiths or Lloyd Cole and the Commotions but with much sappier lyrical content. Most likely an amateur/home recording owing to lousy recording quality.
• odd claymation: 12:43-14:52 - FOUND- This was a Croatian claymation short.
• creepy ad: 14:53-19:05 - A weird non-ad short or series of shorts on Hulu and/or Twitch. This only dates back to the recent pandemic.
• disturbing youtube channel: 19:06-22:38 - Crude animation channel from the early 2010s depicting some very unsettling things done to kids.
• film or mandela: 22:39-27:59 - An alternate ending to Cube? (Is this being conflated with THX1138?)
• outro: 28:00-28:31
