Why the Music in Cats (2019) is Worse than you Thought

Post by WolfofWords »

A very insightful look at the lyrics and music theory behind Cats to explain a lot of the things I thought felt off but could not explain. The craziest part is the reveal that the orchestra and sound editors had a five-point plan so that the singers could improvise on set. It's a ludicrous thing to brag about. It's like bragging about doing a backflip over a moving train. Yeah, it's impressive but there was no reason to do it that way.

Here are some of the points:
1) Adding a main character to the movie messed up the whole arc of the lyrics of the show and especially ruined Memory
2) A lot of the dancing is not in time with the music
3) Inexperienced singers like Rebel Wilson were unable to keep up with the music (Rebel Wilson was also told to sing harmony with nobody singing melody so she sounds awful)
4) Macavity was not a ginger cat
5) For a movie musical, Tom Hooper sure did his best to stop the music as much as possible
