A repost of The Most Mysterious Song on the Internet

Post by scooter »

Ordinarily, I wouldn't post an entire playlist from YT here, but there is enough material here that it makes sense, and apparently a bunch of you at the Labor Day cookout were curious and missed it the first time. Here are the five videos that Justin Whang has released on the topic.

The basic upshot is that this song was recorded off of a German radio station in (most likely) 1984. Years later, the owner of the cassette and his sister put out some inquiries, which went nowhere, and the trail went cold for another decade. At that time, a number of other users joined in and we were off to the races.

Here is the full version, which was uploaded in (I believe) 2017:

It's certainly not "Stairway to Heaven", but it ain't bad, really.

The most promising lead is a Greek band named Statues in Motion, who released an obscure-even-for-me release in Europe in the mid-80s...but even then, the instrumentation is completely different compared to their commercial output, and not all of the members of the band can be located, owing to some language confusion and perhaps a desire to remain private. Whang covers this as well in the fifth of the videos in the playlist.

Unconfirmed report today, minutes ago, that The Most Mysterious Song on the Internet has been found :horror: :horror: :yay: :squee: :win: :coolthumb:  ...it is supposedly called "Subways of Your Mind", by a group or artist named Fex. 404media.co has the story but we are waiting for other sources.
