The Music of Silent Night, Deadly Night

Post by WolfofWords »

I found the music in this movie fascinating. Almost all of it was original and made for this movie most likely to avoid using established Christmas music. It also probably saved money to have most of them written by one person.

Slayrider written by Lee Montgomery and Morgan Ames. A rocking little tune that at first sounds like a Kenny Loggins-esque Christmas tune but takes on a sinister tone in context.

Sweet Little Baby written by Morgan Ames. A calm gospel-like Christmas tune that also gives no hint of horror.

Christmas Flu written by Morgan Ames. A twangy blues song that sounds like an emulation of BB King singing about having the flu during Christmas.

Christmas Fever written by Ira Barmak. This is the song that first caught my attention since it is playing on a radio (?) in the movie. It is not completely out of place in a holiday spirit. It does feel a bit... off.

The Warm Side of the Door written by Morgan Ames. A cheesy song about Christmas and family and stuff. As far as I can tell, "warm side of the door" is not really a saying. This song is really popular in horror circles around Christmas.

Merry Christmas, Baby written by Morgan Ames, Carmen Twillie and Deedee Dennard. Kind of a new wave Christmas song. Very catchy.

It Must Be Christmas written by Rick Phillips. A song that I could easily believe was written for Bruce Springsteen. A middle-of-the-road rock song.

Santa's Watching written by Morgan Ames. The big song from the movie and repeated often. It backs up the theme of Santa being more of an agent of punishment than an agent of reward. The singing comes off a little creepy but out of context it is not a bad song.
