I think it's great that Costello is supporting a fellow musician. These days it feels like there is a line in the sand between new performers and old performers and it doesn't have to be that way.

I dunno...listening to it, I'm not buying it. The "talking blues" style was established even before Chuck Berry, and that's really the main thing got taken through all of these songs. Dylan kept it in a minor key, but Elvis didn't; Elvis kept the tempo, but Dylan modified it a bit.

"Brutal" is a talking blues, but Rodrigo has just shifted to a harmonic major key from "Pump It Up", E from B, and then applied the full riff - seven notes in a row exactly the same, same ostinato, same time signature, same tempo, same instrumentation . The only difference is where she lands it - hers is on the two, Elvis is on one. We're in Vanilla Ice territory, here.

There's a difference between an homage and a straight lift. This is the latter. Not really that surprising.
