Broken Hearts Dossier

The Heartsong Family has long been a thorn in the side of the Guard of Eloria. Their dual nature as a criminal enterprise and as an arm of a noble family. The situation makes things uncomfortably frustrating for the Guard. This frustration does not accompany the Guard's investigation into the so-called Broken Hearts. Whereas the Heartsong Family engages in political corruption, theft, and coercion, the Broken Hearts are far more impulsive and violent.

The Broken Hearts are the discard pile of criminal organizations on the Western Continent. They were founded by a Heartsong splinter group but started recruiting gang members from other organizations who were dissatisfied with their positions. The group was founded by Farrow Stonewillow and Butch Katar but we are investigating whether there has been a larger force backing them.

The Broken Hearts have been involved in much more violent crime. They have murdered several children of nobles, some of which were in locations thought impossible to access. They "signed" their work with their logo (derived from their previous employers) in bloody fashion when they could. We have found their mark on the dead bodies of other citizens dumped in alleyways and the harbor. One of them was nailed to the door of the Sun Temple.

It seems their goals extend from wealth and power to destabilizing the political machine by physically sabotaging it. Whether they mean to stage a coup against the Royal House of Eloria or not is yet to be seen but it is certainly not out of the question.

Update: Due to intelligence collected by Garth Whispernight's Liason Office, we now have reason to believe that the Broken Hearts are connected to the unidentified flying object spotted by Whispernight days ago. This information was brought to me by Officer Avery Coldfire. The object has been named "Nix"`` by a group of adventurers who are being brought into custody to determine what their status is.

Update: Tomorrow night the Guard will back up these adventurers in an assault on a possible location for the Broken Hearts. The first real lead of this case and it has fallen into my lap. I suppose I should not complain. There are other cases that need to be cleared. No rest for the weary.

Description: Suspect's outer appearance has been described in various conflicting accounts. I can only assume that these accounts are useless. It is already known that the suspect is a master of stealth killing and evading pursuit. Her signature weapon is throwing knives that always disappear sometime after impact. Suspect is believed to be in a leadership position of the Broken Hearts if not the leader outright. Suspect is wanted in connection to the Strongrair tragedy. Description: Suspect is tall and strong. She has green-gray skin, a chipped right tusk, red close-cropped hair, and wears a distinctive sleeveless hide coat in all weather. Suspect is considered to be dangerous even when unarmed although she is almost always armed. Suspect is wanted in connection with the tragedy at Strongfair. Murder, Robbery, Disturbing the Peace, Maiming, Other Crimes Against People and Property.

Description: Suspect is a willowy tall woman with straight red hair, luminescent blue-white skin, and distinctive tattoos compromised of swirls and runes. Suspect is a deadly magical practitioner of the School of Transmutation. Suspect was expelled from New Moon Academy before marrying and divorcing Eton Gladwell of the Heartstrings. Murder, Assassination, Burglary, Poisoning, Other Crimes Against People and Property.


Rude Riddlemark aka the Black Thorn

Description: Suspect is a man with a flair for the devilish. By all accounts suspect made a deal with a smoke devil and allowed it to take up residence in his body. There are many outward signs of this occult partnership such as occasional burn marks, shiny black eyes, and a deeper voice. Suspect was present at the tragedy at Strongfair after which he was observed in his new form. The two may be connected? Riddlemark is wanted in connection with many deaths at Strongfair and beyond. His signature seems to be charred bodies, making them hard to identify.

Description: Suspect is a stocky and simple-looking monk. Suspect is affiliated with none of the orders we could contact. No records were found of his identity. Working theory is that he reinvented himself at some point. He is a martial arts expert and able to kill with his hands and feet. He is to be deemed dangerous at all times.
