Star Trek

As I mentioned earlier, I'm working on a game that can alternate with Steve's The Path game. And this time, it isn't just a neat setting concept - I have a couple of plots ready to go.

You'll be the officers on board a Sabre-class starship - the smallest of the bunch. Your ranks will probably top out at Lieutenant Commander; some of you may not be commissioned. The stardate will correspond roughly with the events in Lower Decks.

I will possibly use Hero System for character sheets, as I've found some reference material for them - it might be GURPS or some other system. Not really that important. The main focus will be on the backstory and the description of your characters.

I'm going to leave it up to Steve when he would like to do such a game, as he is in the middle of stuff with The Path. Whenever he feels like trading off, we can do that. I won't be doing anything of import with this until then.

Oh...I'm debating over the name of the ship. I wanted to use USS New Orleans, only to find that not only has it been used in the lore, but that a whole class of ships are named for her. Others I've been considering: Baltimore, Randall, Franklin, Banzai, Penguin...or I could say the hell with it and use New Orleans anyway.

We were discussing this late into the call last night and I love the idea. I haven't watched any of the new Star Trek stuff because paywall and :dunno: but it would be fun to do this as described.

A question: does everyone have Skype? Even if we are on video, I'll need a way to let you know individually what is on your sensors or screen or whatever. So, the Captain will say something like, "Pre-approach scan, Mr. Ransom..." and I'll Skype the result to you so that you can announce it.

This also gives you the latitude to interpret things, or whatever. You don't have to just read the print out when you get it. That would be boring.

Also: Any opinion on the ship's name?

I can get Skype. Or Discord. Or Whatever.

I will always gravitate toward the Baltimore but I'm open to any of those. Randall and Franklin.

No - But I guess I could download. I might be able to try Dad's Mac that he never uses.... Something to investigate.

Also I want to look at the established races of the universe other than the half dozen well known ones. Anyone know of good references materials?

Yeah, I have a reference I downloaded which has a whole bunch of races that were mentioned on the show. Just uploaded it here. (It's a .pdf.) The races just within the Federation go from pages 16 to 36; the major ones there are the Andorians, Bajorans, Betazoid, Caitians, Edoans, Humans, Tellarites, and Trill. There are about five times that in minor ones. Beyond that, you get the Gorn, Tholians, Klingons, Romulans, Cardassians, Ferengi, and Dominion and all their associated races like the Jem'Hadar. And then there's the Borg.

I was just cruising Memory Alpha the other day and chose a Coridanite and wrote a story about one. There are like four dozen races at a minimum in the Federation. Most of which you have undoubtedly forgotten just like I did.

Incidentally: if you have an idea for a character that is definitely the Captain - or if you want to play the Captain - then let me know and we will work this thing out. As long as the other players are cool with it, then so am I. All the plots I have in mind would work with any character as the Captain.

I didn't envision my character (from the story I posted on this forum) being the captain type. I saw him being more tactical/security but I'm still open to pretty much any position.
