Why you choose a strong password

Post by Atlantic »

The chip maker Intel has apparently just had a huge data breach, involving a great deal of its intellectual property, which is now being posted publicly.

It seems that the password on it was "Intel123".

Right you are! And if you have too many passwords to remember, Atlantic recommends the use of a password safe. That is a piece of software where you need memorize only one master password to get into it...and inside it lists all the other passwords for your other sites. The safe is encrypted, so it can't be easily obtained without that master password, and it can be stored on your computer or on your phone. (In fact, it's good to keep copies up to date in both places, just in case.)

For details on recommended software, contact Atlantic!

Yes, it's true that we're moving to systems that do not use passwords, which can be a good thing...but the basic upshot is that even with these systems, we aren't going to have decent security until end users take personal responsibility for it. That means awareness and risk assessment. (And yes, Atlantic can help with these things! Contact us today!)

Another article on choosing strong passwords - and password managers (or password safes) is the recommendation at the end. :ugeek:
I'm an ordinary guy
'cept I can fly
And sometimes I'm invisible...
All day long, I'm just a-rightin' wrongs,
And makin' evil villains miser'ble!

More on strong passwords:

A good video, but not a perfect one; I particularly disagree with the "diceware" method described, as I don't feel it produces a more memorable password than one of randomness, and nowhere are password safes mentioned, which is a serious omission. But it does give you a good idea of what we are up against in the IT field, and what you can do as an end user to make yourself more secure.
